orthoTRAINING is a 2-year-long European Project that started in November 2007 that will provide a new educational service for the orthoSIM platform. This service consists of an e-learning portal where specialized courses are offered to trainees, and a permanent access to the simulation portal and its simulation database, for carrying out all types of studies.
Thanks to this project, rigorous training material will be developed and disseminated through the orthoSIM learning platform. This initial project is focused on the lumbar spine pathologies and implants. Future projects will cover other anatomical joints, in the same fashion as new biomechanical models are integrated in the orthoSIM platform.

orthoSIM is also supported by a database of anonymous cases that is continously updated with presurgical and postsurgical patient information.
The system offers:
- Specialized training courses.
- A database of anonymized clinical cases.
- A virtual community of skilled professionals (discussion boards, chats, faqs, blogs, etc).
- A news service and an associated newsletter.
- Usage of the simulation services with generic implants.

Surgeons, implant designers and even students and researchers are potential users of these services, bringing the following benefits to them:
- To acquire a better knowledge of the biomechanical behavior of the instrumented human joints.
- To compare different implant configurations to obtain the optimal solution for any pathological case.
- To have access to simulate with validated models.
- To join a virtual community of high skilled professionals.
